14 Jul Mount Vernon Independence Day Celebration
PIXofDC joined Mount Vernon for an evening of family fun and fireworks choreographed to patriotic music as we celebrate our nation’s founding! Independence Day celebration started with a bang on July 2, the day Congress voted to declare independence. Attendees enjoyed a patriotic evening filled with dazzling nighttime fireworks, mansion tours, musical performances, and games on George Washington’s beloved estate!
Everyone also got to greet “General and Mrs. Washington” in the historic area before trying their hands at bocce ball. As guests dusted off their dancing shoes for 18th-century dancing demonstrations, Mount Vernon’s colonial artisans also revealed how 18th-century ice cream was made in the days before freezers. There was also an incredible performance by Yorktown Fife & Drum and the National Concert Band.
Think you can strike a pose better than George Washington? Attendees took photos posing like the president and tagged themselves on social media with #PoseLikeThePrez. This event was also one of the few times GW’s grave is open in the evening.
