13 Oct 17th Annual Mid-Atlantic Oktoberfest at Shirlington Village
PIXofDC joined in the fun while winding down DC Beer Week at Capitol City’s Oktoberfest. More than 65 regional breweries and local restaurants served up their best fares at this year’s Oktobefest celebration. The seventeenth annual event was held on Saturday, October 1 at The Village at Shirlington. Capitol City Brewing Company again held a BEST FEST competition for Oktoberfest-style beers. A panel of BJCP (Beer Judge Certified Program) certified judges evaluated each beer. Kristi Griner, Capitol City Brewing Company’s Director of Brewing Operations hosted and announced the winners. Attendees enjoyed a “familiennachmittag” or family afternoon like they do in Munich, Germany. Capitol City invited beer-drinkers and festivalgoers alike to dress in traditional German garb and enjoy the tastes of authentic Bavarian brews, bratwurst and brezlen – the German-style pretzel. More than 65 local breweries set up taps and shared ale and lager samples with the thousands from the DMV region. Notable breweries included Mad Fox, James River, Fair Winds, Port City, Starr Hill, Heritage, Hardywood, Pleasure House, Adventure, O’Connor, Brothers, Jailbreak, Gordon Biersch, Flying Dog, DuClaw, Union, Blue Mountain, Adroit Theory, New District and Chaos Mountain. Capitol City also offered samples of its three feature fall beers, including the newly named Cursed Gourd, the Smoketoberfest and the classic Oktoberfest Lager. In addition to sampling from more than 100 beer taps, festivalgoers enjoyed Alpine music while they taste authentic German cuisine and other American fare from various local eateries.
